Pride Power Their Way To 5-2 Win Over Sussex

(Nashua, NH) Can-Am All-Star Andy Dillard and the league's second-leading hitter Ricardo Cordova homered Friday night to pace the Nashua Pride to a 5-2 triumph over the Sussex Skyhawks before a sellout crowd of 2,972 at Historic Holman Stadium.

Dillard's second home run of the season with one out in the third inning proved to be the decisive run for Nashua as it gave the Pride a 3-1 lead. Cordova's homer to open the sixth made it 4-2 Nashua. The Pride added another run in the sixth on back to back doubles by Sean Dobson and James Lofton. Lofton had three hits on the night.

Billy Becher added a pair of doubles and an RBI for Nashua (2-0, 19-25) and Can-Am All Star Tom Creighton had a single and a double.

Pride starter Mark Hamilton (4-4) worked into the seventh inning to earn the win. Hamilton left the game in the seventh with two on and no one out. Pride manager Butch Hobson made the call for former Southern New Hampshire University righthander Jason Paul and the Henniker, NH resident retired the next three Sussex batters to put an end to the threat.

Hamilton allowed six hits in his six-plus innings of work, permitting just one earned run, walking three and fanning five.

Jamie Baker and Derrick DePriest finished up out of the Nashua bullpen with DePriest getting the final five outs to record his second save in as many chances.

Sussex starter Lincoln Mincks (1-4) worked seven innings and suffered the loss. He surrendered 11 Nashua hits and was charged with five runs, four earned.

Dick Daly, Junior had two hits and an RBI for the Skyhawks (0-2, 23-24).

The Pride will go for a three-game sweep of the series on Saturday night at Historic Holman Stadium. Game time is 7:05 pm. It will be a battle of righthanders with Dan Reichert (4-2, 3.71) on the mound for Nashua and Derek Hawk (0-1, 7.43) for Sussex.
