St. Cloud Rox News Release

The St. Cloud Rox got the monkey off of their backs on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win over Thunder Bay at Joe Faber Field. The win, which snapped a lengthy Rox losing streak, improves St. Cloud to 6-19 on the season. The Border Cats fell to 12-15 on the season in the loss.

Thunder Bay started the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the top of the second inning off of Rox starter Ben Meyer (Minnesota). The tall righty lasted two innings and gave up a pair of runs while scattering four hits. Anthony Mollica (Jacksonville), Alex Roberts (Newberry) and Adam Maxon (Jacksonville) combined to pitch six innings of three-hit, shutout baseball. Roberts earned the win and Maxon the save.

The Rox cut the lead in half when Erik Kozel (Colorado Mesa) blasted a home run that straddled the foul line but ultimately was ruled to be a fair ball. The 2-1 Border Cat lead would last until the bottom of the seventh when Andy Henkemeyer (Minnesota) single home Kozel to tie the game at 2-2.

St. Cloud scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a pair of wild pitches, the second of which scored Jamie Simpson (Eastern Michigan) to give the Rox a 3-2 lead. Maxon pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Andy Henkemeyer was the St Cloud Times player of the game with a three-hit effort, and Erik Kozel had a big night as well with a home run and a pivotal leadoff single in the seventh inning.

The Rox are back at it Wednesday night at Joe Faber Field with Bark in the Park night presented by Granite City Pet Hospital and Surgical Center. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs and enjoy a night at the park with their pooch. Thursday night PreferredOne presents Deuces Wild! Dueling Pianos throughout the game.
