*ROX COME-FROM-BEHIND FOR 5-4 VICTORY*
Quebec City, Quebec - Rox LF Mike Conroy tied the game in the ninth with a two-run single and then 1B Melvin Falu worked a bases-loaded walk as Brockton shocked the Quebec Capitales, 5-4, on Saturday night at Le Stade Municipal. The win was just the second time the Rox have won when trailing after eight innings.
Quebec scored first for the first time in the series with two runs on three hits in the first inning. RF Sebastien Boucher rocked a two-run homer to right field after SS Ivan Naccarata reached on an infield single.
The Rox (3-3 second half, 30-23 overall) cut the lead in half in the third on an RBI single by CF Chris Valencia. The Capitales (3-3, 33-20) answered right back in the bottom of the inning on 1B Robert Wagner's run-scoring single, to reassume a two-run lead.
The middle innings were scoreless as Quebec RHP Dan Sausville was solid, giving up just one run on six hits with seven innings, two walks and four strikeouts, but he received a no-decision at the end of the night.
The Capitales plated an insurance run in the eighth inning to make it, 4-1, on a two-out single by CF Goefrey Tomlinson.
In the ninth inning, Quebec committed two errors in the infield to open the door for the Rox. RF Keith Brachold and DH Clyde Williams were on first and second base after reaching on the errors with one out. SS *Dominic Ramos * would bring Brachold home with a single.
After righty Adam Arnold relieved lefty Andrew Albers, 3B Derek Kinzler grounded out to the right side, which allowed the two runners to move up into scoring position. Then on the first pitch, Conroy smoked a single to center field to even the game at 4-4.
2B Scott Wearne and Valencia would both walk to load the bases with two outs for Falu. Falu worked the count to 3-1, then on the next pitch he roped a long foul to the left-field corner to run the count to 3-2. After fouling a ball off, Falu drew the walk to bring home the go-ahead run from third base.
RHP Hunter Davis would come on for the save in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed a lead-off double to Boucher, which was followed up by a line drive to third base from Wagner. Kinzler ranged to the hole to make the catch for the first out. After a hit by pitch put the winning run at first base, LF Alex Nunez lined out to Kinzler, who turned it into a double play with a throw to second base to retire Boucher.
RHP Colin Lynch (3-3) pitched the eighth inning to get the win, allowing one run on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts. Davis picked up his eighth save in eight chances.
Brockton starter Wayne Lundgren received a no-decision as he threw six innings, surrendering three runs with eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
The loss was issued to RHP Adam Arnold (3-3) as he allowed the go-ahead run in the ninth inning. LHP Andrew Albers blew the save, giving up three runs in 1.1 innings.
Wearne had his fourth straight multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Valencia reached base twice with an RBI single and two walks, as did Ramos (1-for-2, walk, sacrifice, RBI) and Conroy (1-for-3, walk, two RBI, two runs scored).
The finale of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. RHP Mike Smith will make the start for the Rox against Quebec RHP Andy Schon at Le Stade Municipal.
