Can-Am League Recap

Published on July 24, 2010 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

New Jersey 3, Sussex 1

New Jersey scored three times in the first inning, and got a masterful pitching performance from starter Jayson Miller to hold off Sussex 3-1. Miller, in just his second start of the season, tossed 7.2 innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. The only offensive support for Miller came in the first inning, when New Jersey got an RBI single by DH Shawn Riggans and a two-run double from 2B Travis Jones. The teams combined for just 10 hits in the game, and no hitter managed more than one base knock.

Pittsfield 14, Worcester 6 (Game 1 - 7 innings)

The Pittsfield offense pounded 16 hits and plated 14 runs in just seven innings to easily down Worcester 14-6 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Colonials got huge production from DH Daniel Carte, who finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, 3B Jason Taylor, who tallied four hits and five RBI, and CF Quentin Davis, who launched two home runs. Pittsfield trailed 1-0 early when Worcester 1B Chris Colabello smashed a first inning home run, but immediately responded with four runs in the bottom half, and never again trailed. Five Pittsfield pitchers shared the load on the mound, and reliever Kyle Bradley, the first man out of the bullpen, picked up the win despite allowing a run in 2/3 inning.

Pittsfield 5, Worcester 2 (Game 2 - In Progress - Bottom 6)

This game was still in progress with Pittsfield leading Worcester 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. For more information, go to our website at canamleague.com.

Brockton 5, Quebec 4

Down by three, Brockton scored four times in the top of the ninth to take over the lead and come back to beat Quebec 5-4. The frame started with an error by Quebec 1B Robert Wagner, and after Brockton SS Dominic Ramos knocked one in, LF Mike Conroy tied the game with a two-run single with two outs. Quebec reliever Jeremy Hunt then came in and walked two batters, including 1B Melvin Falu with the bases loaded to force in the winning run. In the bottom of the ninth, Brockton closer Hunter Davis held on to earn his eighth save. Before surrendering the lead, Quebec got a great performance from starter Dan Sausville, and another big night at the plate from RF Sebastien Boucher, who hit his eighth home run of the season.
