St. Cloud, MN - St. Cloud (4-7) got a strong start from Trevor Koenig (St. Cloud State) on the mound but lost game one of the series to Rochester (6-5) by a score of 4-1.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning, the Rox got to work quickly. With Ben Carew (Kent State) on second base, Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) drilled a single into center field and scored Carew to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rox would rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, bringing the tying run to the plate, but couldn't score the two runners on base.
Steiger, Brendan Tinsman (Wake Forest), Hance Smith (California), Zack Elliott (Minnesota) and Tyler Finke (Southeastern Louisiana) would all record base hits in the game.
Following Koenig's start, Taylor Lepard (USC Upstate), Justin Wick (Creighton), Joey Stock (St. Johns) and Garrett Delano (Brown) all saw action out of the bullpen.
The Rox will take on the Honkers at Mayo Field in the series finale on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
St. Cloud will be back at home on Sunday with a 4:05 p.m. first pitch time against Willmar. It's Pink in the Park Day presented by Center for Diagnostic Imaging. The Rox will be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off at the game with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. It's also a Coborn's Kids Day as children will have the opportunity to run the bases after the game and get autographs on the field.
