Sloppy Pit Spitters Fall to Kingfish 7-3
June 8, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - It was a night that Pit Spitters fielders will look to forget as four errors proved to be the difference in their 7-3 defeat to the Kenosha Kingfish Saturday night at Pit Spitters Park.
The Kingfish opened the scoring in the second inning, plating one before immediately being pegged back by the Pit Spitters, who scored two of their own to take the lead in the bottom half. That rally was lead by a Kam Smith (SO Northern Illinois) leadoff double and a walk and stolen base by left fielder Daniel Head (JR New Mexico State.) The Kingfish and Pit Spitters each posted a run in the fourth inning, and the Kingfish drew level in the fifth behind a single by shortstop Mitchell Buban that was aided by a pair of Pit Spitters errors that allowed him to come around to score.
The decisive inning was the eighth, as the Kingfish sent nine men to the plate, scoring four times behind three hits, three walks, and a Pit Spitters error. The Kingfish bullpen was able to hang on to that 7-3 lead from there.
The loss negated another solid start by Chad Patrick (SO Purdue Northwest,) who tossed five innings giving up two earned runs on five hits and two walks, striking out five.
The Pit Spitters return to action Sunday with a 3:05 p.m. road tilt with the Kalamazoo Growlers. The Pit Spitters return home Friday, June 14, with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against those same Kalamazoo Growlers. Every Friday is "Fireworks Friday," at Pit Spitters Park, when cost of admission includes a fireworks display after the game. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m.
