Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, Mass. - The Brockton Rox professional baseball club of the Can-Am League announced on Thursday the dates for the club's "Strike Out Autism Night," held in conjunction with the Autism Speaks organization.
On Saturday, September 4 when the Rox take on the Worcester Tornadoes at 6:05 p.m., the team will wear specially designed autism awareness jerseys. The jerseys will be placed up for auction, with the bidding starting at the Friday, September 3 game and ending at the end of the seventh inning during the game on Sunday, September 5. Auction winners will be able to have their photos taken with the player who wore the jersey after the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Autism Speaks.
As part of the event, now in its second season, the Rox are also making fundraising tickets available through the club's web site. Coming shortly, clicking on the "Strike Out Autism Night" link on brocktonrox.com will lead to a page where tickets can be purchased for the September 4 game, with a portion of the price of each ticket sold being donated to Autism Speaks.
"We're looking forward to a great weekend," Rox team president *Chris Carminucci *said. "Autism Speaks does so many positive things for those affected with autism, and we're happy to be able to help the organization."
Autism Speaks will also have a concourse table at the game to distribute literature and collect donations during the evening. Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
"We are extremely excited to be partnering with the Brockton Rox to raise awareness and funds to help improve the lives of those living with autism. We are thrilled to have their support for the second year in a row and look forward to a long-term partnership," added *Kelley Borer*, the walk director of the Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
Tickets for the evening can be purchased through brocktonrox.com, or by calling the Rox at (508) 559-7070.
