Quebec City, Quebec - Rox LF Mike Conroy rocked a two-out grand slam on the first pitch he saw in the ninth inning to give Brockton an 11-7 lead and they held on for the win, 11-10, over the Quebec Capitales on Thursday night at Le Stade Municipal.

The Rox (2-2 second half, 29-22 overall) grabbed the initial lead of the game in the first when 2B Scott Wearne

led off the game with a double. He would eventually score on an error by Quebec 3B Mike Thompson. Quebec tied it in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by SS Ivan Naccarata.

Brockton pushed across two runs in the third inning on three hits. 1B Clyde Williams

brought home the first on an RBI groundout, and then C Chris Grossman

plated the second on a double.

The Capitales (2-2, 32-19) evened the score with two home runs in the fifth, both solo shots, by C Patrick D'Aoust and Thompson. The score would remain 3-3 until the seventh when Quebec scored three to take their first lead, 6-3. The big hit of that inning was a two-out two-run single by Naccarata.

The Rox regained the lead in the top of the eighth with four runs, capped off by a two-run double from Wearne and an RBI single from CF Chris Valencia

. The lead did not last long as the Capitales hit their fourth solo homer to lead off the eighth, this time from 1B Robert Wagner.

With the score 7-7 in the top of the ninth, Brockton loaded the bases on three walks issued by Quebec reliever Jeremy Hunt. Hunt was replaced by RHP Andy Schon in order to face Conroy, who sent the first pitch over the right-field wall on a line for his third homer of the season, to give the Rox the 11-7 advantage.

Quebec fought back in the bottom of the ninth, plating three on three hits off of RHP Hunter Davis

. RHP Josh Papelbon came on with the bases loaded and one out with the tying run at third base and the winning run at second. Papelbon proceeded to strikeout both D'Aoust and RF Jared Lemieux, to earn his seventh save of the season.

RHP Colin Lynch (2-3) picked up the win for the Rox with two-thirds scoreless in the eighth inning. Brockton starter Freddy Flores

had a solid outing, giving up four runs on five hits in 6.2 innings with six strikeouts and two walks.

Hunt (1-2) was dealt the loss for the Capitales, while starter Michel Simard received a no-decision. He went seven innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Wearne was 3-for-5 for the Rox with two doubles and two RBI. Valencia had a multi-hit game with an RBI as did Grossman. Conroy finished 2-for-4 with the grand slam, a double and a run scored.

Game two of the four-game series is Friday night at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Buster Lussier

(1-3) on the bump, taking on Quebec RHP Troy Cate (1-2).
