Curve, Pa. - The Altoona Curve rallied in the eighth inning to defeat the Akron RubberDucks 4-3 Monday evening at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Mel Rojas, Jr. was at the center of the scoring for Altoona, collecting three hits including a two-RBI single in the eighth that won the game for Altoona.
Altoona struck first in the game by plating a pair of runs in the first inning. After Gift Ngoepe and Alen Hanson reached base on a single, Rojas hit an RBI double down the left field line that plated Ngoepe. With a pair of runners in scoring position, Matt Curry knocked a single to left that made the score 2-0 after Hanson scored from third.
Akron was held in check for the first four innings but scored a pair of runs in the fifth. After Ronny Rodriguez clubbed a leadoff home run in the fifth to make it 2-1, Jordan Smith walked with one out and later scored on an RBI groundout by Tyler Naquin.
The 'Ducks took their first lead of the game in the seventh. After Alex Lavisky reached on a single, he scored two batters later when Tyler Holt hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right.
