PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of May 12th through May 18th:

Bowie Baysox first baseman Christian Walker has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 12th-May 18th. The 23-year old hit .458 (11-for-24) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, two walks and a .833 slugging percentage in six games for the Baysox last week. Walker, who is a native of Limerick, Pennsylvania, had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and had an extra base hit in four of those games, including hitting home runs in back-to-back games on Wednesday at Richmond and on Friday at Reading. The 6'0", 220 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in hits (11), extra-base hits (5), total bases (20), slugging percentage (.833) and OPS (1.333) last week. He also ranked among the league leaders in doubles (3-tied 2nd), batting average (.458-3rd), home runs (2-tied 3rd), on-base percentage (.500-4th), RBI (6-tied 4th) and runs scored (5-tied 6th). Walker is batting .325 and has driven in a league-high 33 runs in 41 games for the Baysox this season. Christian, who was also the Eastern League Player of the Week earlier this season for the period of April 14th-20th, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round of the 2012 draft after hitting .321 as a junior at the University of South Carolina.

A.J. Cole, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Harrisburg Senators, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 12th-May 18th. The 6'5", 200 lb. hurler started one game for the Senators last week and had a record of 1-0 with eight strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Cole, who is a native of Winter Springs, Florida, made his lone appearance of the week on Saturday night in the opener of a doubleheader against the visiting New Britain Rock Cats and threw his first career complete game in Harrisburg's 5-0 victory. He gave up just four hits and struck out eight batters without issuing a walk while improving his record to 4-2 on the season and lowering his ERA to 2.25, which currently ranks third in the league. The 22-year old was the only pitcher in the Eastern League to throw a complete game last week and ranked among the weekly leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), WHIP (0.57-2nd), batting average against (.167-tied 7th) and strikeouts (8-tied 8th). A.J., who entered the season rated by MLB.com as the second best prospect in the Washington organization, was acquired by the Nationals in a trade with the Oakland A's on January 16, 2013. He was originally drafted by Washington in the fourth round of the 2010 draft and was traded to Oakland on December 23, 2011.
