Game notes

The Silvertips match up with the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL Playoffs for the eighth time in franchise history. Previous encounters include the 2023 Western Conference Quarterfinal (POR in five), 2018 Western Conference Semifinal (EVT in five), 2016 Western Conference Quarterfinal (EVT in 4), 2015 Western Conference Semifinal (POR in 5), 2013 Western Conference Quarterfinal (POR in six), 2011 Western Conference Quarterfinal (POR in 4) and 2005 Western Conference Quarterfinal (EVT in 7). Portland swept the Victoria Royals in the Western Conference Quarterfinal.

The Winterhawks won the regular season series against the Silvertips 6-2, including all four games played at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Gabe Klassen led Portland in scoring with 15 points in eight games played against Everett. Jan Špunar finished 3-1-0 against the Tips this season with a .953 save percentage and a 1.43 goals-against average.

Everett's two wins against Portland this year have come in dramatic fashion- a comeback victory on Nov. 24 in which the Tips, trailing 3-0 after one, scored six unanswered for a victory spurred on by a Teague Patton natural hat trick; and a 4-0 shutout on Feb. 18 behind 34 saves from Tyler Palmer.

The Silvertips are fresh off a five-game series win over the Vancouver Giants, in which Palmer led all WHL goaltenders in first-round save percentage (.937) and goals-against average (1.67). His performances in Games Three, Four and Five (including a 25-save shutout in Game Five) earned him WHL Goalie of the Week.

On the horizon...

Save with a combo pack for both Games Three and Four. Game Five if necessary will be played in Everett on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 6 p.m.
