Round Rock Uses Three Home Runs to Beat Zephyrs 8-1

Greg Reynolds carried a three-hit shutout into the eighth inning, and the Round Rock Express used three home runs to beat the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-1 on Monday at Zephyr Field.

In the third inning Round Rock took a 4-0 lead. The Express batted around, scoring four runs off five hits and two walks before the Zephyrs were able to use a double play to help get out of the inning.

New Orleans followed the bottom of the frame threatening to start a rally when Sergio Pedroza doubled to left-center with one out, but the Zephyrs were unable to capitalize on the hit.

The top of the fourth brought another run across for the Express when Joey Butler homered to right field to lead off the inning.

Reliever Gary Glover allowed three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, giving up a solo and two-run home run to Brad Nelson and Yangervis Solarte upping the score to 8-0.

Sergio Pedroza sent a home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the eighth to break up Reynolds' shutout bid.

Rob Delaney held the Express scoreless for the next two innings, as did Dan Jennings in the ninth frame, with three strikeouts and three hits.

Pedroza and Gil Velazquez led the Z's at the plate with two hits each. Pedroza doubled and homered with an RBI and run scored, Velazquez singled twice, and Luke Montz and Chase Lambin added one hit apiece.

Wade LeBlanc (1-1) took the loss for New Orleans giving up seven hits and five earned runs in three innings. Greg Reynolds (1-2) recorded the win for Round Rock giving up one run and six hits in eight innings.

New Orleans will conclude the series Tuesday at 11:30am in game four against the Round Rock Express. Right-hander Tom Koehler (0-2) will face Round Rock' s lefty Zach Jackson (0-2).
