Round Rock Express News Release
METAIRIE, La. - Joey Butler blasted one of three Round Rock home runs, and Greg Reynolds worked eight strong innings as the Express defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-1 in Monday night's Pacific Coast League action at Zephyr Field. The Express (8-11) have won three of their last four games, including two of three in the four-game series against the Zephyrs (12-6).
Matt Kata's two-run single keyed a four-run third inning for the Express. Butler led off the fourth with his fourth home run of the season and second in as many games. It was his second hit of the night, pushing his hitting streak to 13 games. It is Butler's fourth streak of at least 10 games in the last 12 months. Brad Nelson tacked on a two-run homer in the fifth, and Yangervis Solarte followed with his second home run in as many games.
That was more than enough run support for Reynolds (1-2), who did not allow a run until Sergio Pedroza's two-out solo homer in the eighth. That was New Orleans' first run against Round Rock pitching since Saturday's series opener, snapping a 16.2-inning scoreless streak. Pedroza also had a double, and the other four Express hits were singles. Reynolds did not walk a batter and struck out two.
Ben Snyder worked around a pair of walks with two strikeouts for a scoreless ninth. He has tossed five and one-third scoreless innings over his last three outings.
New Orleans starter Wade LeBlanc (1-1) was tattooed for five runs on seven hits and three walks over three innings; he struck out two.
Eight of Round Rock's nine starters hit safely, including six players with two-hit games - Butler, Kata, Nelson, Leonys Martin, Luis Martinez and Greg Miclat, who had two doubles. The only Express starter who did not hit safely was Mike Bianucci; he walked twice, one of which came with the bases loaded in Round Rock's four-run third.
Pedroza and Gil Velazquez both were 2-for-3 for the Zephyrs.
Round Rock and New Orleans conclude their four-game series Tuesday with an 11:35 a.m. CDT first pitch at Zephyr Field. Left-hander Zach Jackson (0-2, 7.31 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Tom Koehler (0-2, 6.60 ERA) is slated to go for the Zephyrs.
