
Round Rock holds off Redbirds

Memphis, Tenn. - Round Rock held off a late Memphis rally and edged the âBirds 3-2 Saturday night in front of a season-high 14,178 fans at AutoZone Park.
In the bottom of the ninth inning Memphis rallied for a run and had the bases loaded with one out. However, Express reliever Fernando Nieve struck out Colby Rasmus on three pitches before Nick Stavinoha flew out to right field to end the game. Yordany Ramirez's solo home run to lead off the ninth inning was the margin of victory for Round Rock.
Memphis starter Clayton Mortensen took the loss in his Triple-A debut. The right-hander gave up two runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Jack Cassel earned the win for the Express pitching seven strong innings. He allowed one run on five hits with three walks to notch his fifth win for the club.
The Redbirds and Express wrap up their four-game series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Southpaw Jaime Garcia is set to go to the mound for Memphis with Round Rock scheduled to start Chad Reineke.
