Portland Beavers News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Wade LeBlanc continued his dominance with his third win over Sacramento, Tom King hit a two-run homer and totaled three RBIs, and the Portland Beavers snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the River Cats 6-1 Saturday night at Raley Field.
LeBlanc (6-4) improved to 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA (1er, 17.0ip) and 24 strikeouts in three outings (2 starts) against the River Cats this season by limiting them to an unearned run on four hits and striking out eight across his six innings Saturday night.
The reigning Pacific Coast League pitcher of the Week, LeBlanc (6-4) has a win to show for each of his last four appearances (3 starts), lowering his season ERA from a season-high 9.35 to 6.51 by allowing just six earned runs over 22 innings in that span.
After King homered in the third, Brian Myrow, Chip Ambres and Chase Headley hit RBI doubles during the next two innings as the Beavers (30-30), who beat Sacramento (39-23) for the first time in the last six tries, got out to a 5-0 lead against starter Dan Meyer.
Meyer (5-4) went five innings for the River Cats, giving up five runs (4 earned), eight hits and one walk while striking out five batters in the loss, his third in his last three starts on the heels of a personal, five-game winning streak.
Will Venable was 2-for-3 with two walks, King padded Portland's lead with an RBI single in the eighth, and Headley and Ambres led the Beavers' 13-hit attack with three apiece.
The River Cats got on the board in the fifth when Ryan Sweeney singled and later scored from third when a two-out error by King at third base allowed Jeff Baisley to reach base.
The Beavers and River Cats wrap up the four-game set Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
