Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of Round Rock Express infielder Chris McGuiness, the club announced today. Additionally, they have assigned LHP Joe Ortiz to the Express.

McGuiness has spent the entire 2013 campaign with the Express, batting .275 (53-193) with six home runs, 19 doubles and 34 RBI. His 19 doubles ranked second in the Pacific Coast League. Over his last 10 games, the 25-year-old is hitting .364 (12-33) with eight RBI. McGuiness was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

In 20 appearances for the Rangers this season, Ortiz is 2-1 with a 5.13 ERA (26.1ip/15er). He had a 0.82 ERA through his first seven appearances (11.0ip/1er), but then gave up runs in his next three outings, raising his ERA to 4.26 (12.2ip/6er). The southpaw split the 2012 season between Double-A Frisco and Round Rock.

With these moves, the Express' roster sits at 25 active, the Pacific Coast League limit.

The Express starts a four-game road trip tonight against the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A Chicago Cubs) before returning home for four games against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A Los Angeles Dodgers) June 10-13.
