Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - Chicago Cubs' prospect Junior Lake joins Iowa today and will make his triple-A debut as the Cubs' starting third baseman tonight against Round Rock. INF Edwin Maysonet has been placed on the disabled list, as of June 4, with a strained left hamstring. RHP Yoanner Negrin has been placed on the paternity list to join his wife for the birth of his child.

Lake has been at the Cubs' complex in Mesa, Arizona recovering from an oblique injury suffered during spring training. He was rated the Cubs' ninth-best prospect by MiLB.com and 15th in the organization by Baseball America entering the season. Last year, Lake missed the first month of the season with a back injury, but joined double-A Tennessee on May 6 and hit .279 (113-for-405) with 10 home runs, 50 RBI, 21 stolen bases, and a career-high 26 doubles in 103 games. During the off-season, Lake hit .312 (48-for-154) with Estrellas de Oriente to finish tied for third in the Dominican Winter League in batting.

Lake led the Cubs' farm system with 38 stolen bases for high-A Daytona in 2011 and was named to the Florida State League All-Star team. He then went to the Arizona Fall League and led the circuit with 18 steals in 18 attempts. The Cubs signed Lake as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on February 2, 2007.

Maysonet is batting .255 (24-for-94) with five home runs and 20 RBI in 38 games with Iowa this season. He has been limited to emergency pinch-hitting duty since he originally strained the hamstring on May 30 at Nashville.

Negrin is 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA (13ER/39.0IP) in 16 games, including two starts with the I-Cubs this season. His starts have come in his last two appearances. He is expected to be back with Iowa on Sunday.
