Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City used a five-run sixth inning to turn a competitive game into a run-away 8-1 victory over the Round Rock Express in Pacific Coast League action Thursday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Express (43-63) have lost six of their last seven overall and 12 of their last 13 on the road. The RedHawks clinched the series with wins in each of the first three games and hold a 9-2 advantage in the season series.
Yorman Bazardo pitched well in a spot start for the Express, his first start after 26 relief appearances this season. Bazardo (2-3) still suffered the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks with a season-high five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
Meanwhile, Michael Kirkman held the Express bats at bay over 6.0 innings for his 10th win. Kirkman (10-3) allowed a run on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Derek Eppley tossed 2.0 scoreless, and Warner Madrigal worked a perfect ninth to close the game.
The RedHawks snapped a scoreless tie with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. Guilder Rodriguez plated the first run with an RBI single, and Esteban German capped the frame with a two-run double.
Round Rock got a run back in the fourth. Wladimir Sutil led off with a double and later scored on Brian Bogusevic's one-out single. However, the Express could get no closer.
Brad Thompson spelled Bazardo to start the bottom of the sixth and surrendered five runs on six hits in just one-third of an inning. Matthew Brown had the big hit in the inning, a bases-loaded, two-run double to right-center.
For the third straight game, no Express player turned in a multiple-hit outing as seven different players had one hit apiece. Sutil's double was Round Rock's lone extra-base hit.
German led the way for Oklahoma City, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Brown, Rodriguez, Craig Gentry, Brandon Boggs and Herman Iribarren all had two-hit nights.
Round Rock and Oklahoma City conclude the four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Lefty Polin Trinidad (3-7, 4.94 ERA) strides to the mound for the Express, while right-hander Omar Beltre (1-7, 2.61 ERA) gets the nod for the RedHawks.
