Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Josh Collmenter scattered three runs over 5.2 innings of work, picking up his first-career win at Aces Ballpark in an 11-3 Reno victory over the Las Vegas 51s Thursday night.
The victory gives the Aces a 7-3 lead over the 51s in the 2010 edition of the Silver State Diamond Challenge, with just six games remaining between the two clubs.
The Aces spotted Collmenter (3-2) with a five-run second inning, and the big right-hander made the early lead stand up. Collmenter scattered three runs on seven hits in a 106-pitch effort. The bullpen was solid once again, as Rafael Rodriguez tossed 2.1 scoreless frames and TJ Beam worked a spotless ninth inning to finish off the proceedings.
The loss fell to 51s starter Lance Broadway (2-9), who allowed eight runs-seven earned-on seven hits over six innings of work. Broadway walked five and struck out four.
Jeff Bailey led the Aces offense with three hits and five RBIs, helped by a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Bailey has now reached safely in 30-straight games at Aces Ballpark-one short of the franchise record. Chris Rahl hit a solo homer, and Pedro Ciriaco added two hits and two RBIs for the Aces.
The series comes to a close on Friday night from Aces Ballpark. RHP Kris Benson (1-2, 11.02 ERA) will make a Major League rehabilitation start for the Aces, while the 51s will counter with Sean Henn (3-2, 3.31 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the game will be highlighted by another Saint Mary's Fireworks Friday presented by KOLO 8.
