LH Michael Kirkman (9-3, 3.16) vs. RH Yorman Bazardo (2-2, 3.56)

TONIGHT: The RedHawks call on Michael Kirkman, fourth in the league with a 3.16 ERA, in the third of a 4-game series with the Round Rock Express. OKC has won the first 2 games of this series and is 8-2 against the Express this season. The RedHawks scored single runs in 4 innings yesterday to win 4-2 behind the rehab start of Derek Holland. OKC has been in first place since April 14 and has had sole possession of the top spot in the American South since a win on April 16. The RedHawks lead the division by 2 games over Albuquerque, 3.5 over New Orleans and 13 over Round Rock.

MORELAND A RANGER: Texas purchased the contract of Mitch Moreland today to replace Ian Kinsler, who is on the DL. Moreland leaves the RedHawks as the club leader in RBIs (64) hits (102) and doubles (29). Moreland was fifth in the PCL in doubles and leading the league in outfield assists.

HOLLAND WINS REHAB DEBUT: Texas lefty Derek Holland went 5 innings yesterday rehabbing shoulder and knee injuries, picking up the win in a 4-2 final. Holland allowed a solo homer by Chris Shelton to lead off the fifth for his only hit and run allowed. He walked 2 and fanned 1 in running his PCL record to 5-1, 1.03. Holland was OKC's opening-night starter and made 6 starts before being recalled by Texas. Yesterday, he delivered 60 pitches, 35 strikes.

WELCOME BACK: Esteban German has turned in back-to-back 2-hit games since returning on Tuesday from the DL. German singled in the go-ahead run in a 4-run seventh inning on Tuesday. He missed 11 games with a strained left hamstring, with OKC going 3-8 in his absence.

BROWN'S STREAK REACHES 12: Matt Brown has hit safely in 12 straight games, going 16-for-46 (.348) with 1 homer and 5 RBIs. Brown's streak is the second-best by a RedHawk this year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has the longest OKC hitting streak, 16 games, from April 21-May 11. Since returning from the DL July 1, Brown is batting .344 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.

BOGGS UPDATE: Brandon Boggs raised his on-base streak to 27 games yesterday. The current streak began June 21 and it's the longest active on-base streak in the PCL. He has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 50 starts beginning May 24, the only break in the streak a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 63.

PITCHING TIDBITS: The RedHawks are 23-16 when the bullpen does not allow a run. OKC is 2-0 when no relievers are used and 30-32 when the relief corps allows a run. With Tanner Scheppers and Pedro Strop earning saves the past 2 games, each of the last 4 OKC saves has been against Round Rock. The others were picked up by Cody Eppley July 9 and Clay Rapada July 8. Rapada has the lowest opponents' batting average in the PCL among ERA qualifiers at .172 and the best ratio of base runners per 9 innings among PCL relievers at 8.74. Rapada has allowed 9 hits, all singles, against left-handed hitters, limiting them to a .115 average. Tonight's starter Michael Kirkman is fourth in the PCL with a 3.16 ERA and leads the league with 103 strikeouts and 60 walks. Kirkman's .234 opponents' batting average is tied for second-lowest in the league among starters behind Thomas Diamond of Iowa (.217).

ERA LEAD: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.75. Tacoma is second at 3.95. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (65) in Triple-A, but did surrender 2 solo shots yesterday to create both Round Rock runs. OKC surrendered the fewest runs (441) in the PCL and is second in strikeouts (764) behind Sacramento (789).

ODDS AND TRENDS: Craig Gentry has hit safely in 17 of 20 starts since returning from the DL July 7 and is batting .341 (31-for-91) in those games...Gentry has raised his average from .283 to .308 in that time and he has recorded consecutive 2-hit games...Gregorio Petit has hits in 13 of 15 games since the All-Star Break, going 17-for-52 (.327).
