Roughriders win five-hit shutout of San Antonio

San Antonio - Game two was a complete 180 compared to last nights offensive barrage as Barrett Loux led the Roughriders to a five hit shutout of the San Antonio Missions to earn his AA leading 11 win.

After Frisco's four-run second inning, the Missions tried to cut into the early deficit. However, after getting runners on first and second with one out, a Jeudy Valdez strike out and pick-off at second base ended the inning, keeping San Antonio off the board. Another opportunity wasted came the next inning when Loux walked the first two batters, but retired the next three.

Missions' shortstop Jeudy Valdez saved a run from scoring in the sixth inning by throwing out Ryan Strausberger at home. Sampson then struck out Engel Beltre for the third time to end the inning.

Missions' starter Keyvius Sampson began to click after his one-inning blunder to hold the Roughriders scoreless over the next four innings. San Antonio was unable to get any sort of run support going throughout the game after scoring 10 runs on 13 hits just one day ago.

Relievers Daniel Stange and Matt Lollis kept the scoreless streak alive by retiring Frisco's final 10 batters, but the Missions could tie together a rally. San Antonio drops to 12 games below .500 at 23-35 and Frisco improves to 35-23 with the win.

Game three is tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. and will be Missions Jerseys Giveaway, presented by McCombs Ford West & Superior Hyundai. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Missions Jersey upon entry into Wolff Stadium. The pitching matchup features Frisco righty Jake Brigham (2-2, 3.86 ERA) going against lefty Andrew Werner (1-6, 3.99 ERA).
