Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 10, 2015) - During Friday night's game at Dr Pepper Ballpark, the Frisco RoughRiders proudly introduced their newest addition: Brooks, a 20-month-old Golden Labrador retriever who will serve as the club's new official "bat dog" and team ambassador. Brooks was unveiled to a huge crowd during an inning break this evening and is sure to become a fan-favorite.

Officially trained as a guide dog, Brooks has gone through a career change to work in professional baseball. He will soon begin bat dog training to retrieve bats, take water to the umpires and run the bases during RoughRiders games. Brooks will likely make his on-field debut later this season after his full bat dog training has been completed.

Brooks' introduction comes one night before Frisco holds its first-ever "Bark in the Park" night at Dr Pepper Ballpark (Saturday at 7:05 p.m.), in which fans with grass berm tickets may bring man's best friend with them to watch a RoughRiders game.

The canine came to the Riders through a new partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind. Since 1942, Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) has empowered lives by creating exceptional partnerships between people, dogs and communities. GDB is the largest Guide Dog school in the country and is dedicated to providing high quality student training services and extensive follow-up support for graduates. Their programs are made possible through the teamwork of staff, volunteers and generous donors. Services are provided to students from the United States and Canada at no cost to them.
