Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

MIDLAND, Texas - The first inning held all the action at Security Bank Ballpark on Friday night as the Naturals the RockHounds exchanged home runs in the first; but Midland's home run was one run better. Northwest Arkansas (0-2) dropped game two of the three game series to the Midland RockHounds (2-0) 3-2 on a windy night in west Texas.

The Naturals started out on the offensive in the first with Angel Franco smacking a full-count single into center while two pitches later Franco was along for the ride on Jorge Bonifacio's two-run homer. The Naturals right-fielder wrapped the Chris Jensen (1-0, 3.00) offering down the left field foul line for his second long ball in as many days.

Midland promptly followed with an offensive inning in the home half of the frame. Northwest Arkansas starter Glenn Sparkman (0-1, 6.75) couldn't get an 0-2 pitch past Midland centerfielder Bobby Crocker who doubled down the right field line to lead off the inning. Sparkman issued a walk to Matt Olson then shortstop and Oakland's No. 12 prospect (Baseball America) took the hurler's first pitch opposite field to give the RockHounds a 3-2 lead.

Pitching took over the remainder of the game with Sparkman coming out in the second inning and striking out the side. The 22-year old Ganado, Texas native retired the final 10 batters faced with six coming on strikeouts. Mark Peterson and Ali Williams combined for a final four scoreless innings of work with Peterson working three and striking and Williams polishing off a scoreless eighth.

Bonifacio finished the evening 1-for-3 with the lone runs driven in while the other two Naturals' hits were yielded by Franco (1-for-3) and Hunter Dozier (1-for-4).

Northwest Arkansas looks to southpaw Jonathan Dziedzic to halt the skid as he faced off against right-hander Tanner Peters as the Hounds hunt for the sweep.

First pitch is set for 7:00 with a 6:45 pregame show with Benjamin Kelly on AM-1030, KFAY.
