Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- David Boehm scored two goals and assisted on two others and Tyler Thompson also scored twice as the host RoughRiders rolled over the Des Moines Buccaneers 7-1 Saturday night.
The Riders jumped on the Bucs for three first period goals and never looked back. Doug Jones started the onslaught by converting a goal mouth feed from Boehm 8:22 into the game. The Riders doubled the lead just 2:19 later when Tyler Thompson finished off a nifty give-and-go with Ben Lynch by backhanding the puck home from close range.
Boehm capped off a fine first period for Cedar Rapids by walking in alone to make in 3-0 with just under a minute left in the first.
The Riders were shorthanded when Boehm struck for his second midway through the second period.
There was no let up in the third period as the Riders ripped off three more.
Casey Wellman backhanded a Nick Oddo centering pass over Des Moines starting goaltender Joe Rodwell at 3:02 of the third. That goal extended the Rider lead to 5-0 and chased Rodwell from the game.
Relief netminder Fredrik Bergman fared no better as he surrendered the Riders' sixth goal and Thompson's second just under two minutes later as Thompson scored from the slot.
Vince Mihalek added the final burst of Cedar Rapids offensive fireworks at 11:28 by swooping across the goalmouth and sweeping the puck past Bergman.
Austin Handley's blue line blast finally got the Bucs on the scoreboard with just 4:03 left in the third period but had no impact on the result.
