Storm take 4-3 overtime win
October 20, 2007 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Tri City Storm dampened the Hawks outlook on Saturday, rallying for a 4-3 overtime win at Young Arena after never leading during regulation.
The Hawks went up 2-0 in the first period with a long powerplay goal from Blake Kessel, then a backhander from closer range by Brock Montpetit, also on the powerplay, forced a Tri City timeout. The break in the action worked and the Storm rallied to tie the game by intermission.
Early in the second period, Craig Smith's long pass missed everyone at center ice, but Paul Weisgarber chased the puck down. Playing a ricochet off the end boards, Weisgarber put a shot off Aaron Rock into the net.
The Black Hawks held the lead until there were less than four minutes remaining in the game, when a powerplay goal for Troy Mattila tied the score.
Even with Waterloo on a powerplay in extra time, the Storm were able to move up ice, and Mike Cichy flipped a shot just under the crossbar for the game-winner.
The Black Hawks begin a four game road trip in Green Bay Wednesday. The next home game is slated for Novermber 3rd against the currently undefeated Omaha Lancers.
