Roughrider Re-Sign Jackie Mitchell

May 27, 2002 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

Today, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club announced the re-signing of import linebacker Jackie Mitchell. Details of the contract were not released.

Jackie Mitchell had a breakthrough season with the Riders last year. In fifteen games, Mitchell picked up 87 defensive tackles, which was good for fourth in the CFL. He also had three quarterback sacks, five special teams tackles, and one fumble recovery. Mitchell also led the Riders with four interceptions.

In his two seasons with Saskatchewan, Mitchell has 136 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, four quarterback sacks, and five interceptions.

Mitchell signed a contract this off-season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was released last month. Mitchell was a free agent, but decided to return to the Roughriders and continue with one of the league's top defenses.

Head Coach Danny Barrett stated, "re-signing Jackie Mitchell fills a huge hole. Adding Jackie to the players we already have on the roster will assure that the Riders will once again be one of the league's most feared defenses."
