RoughRider-Jaycees Food Drives Return for Third Season

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will again this season team up for monthly food drives to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir, the RoughRiders announced today.

The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders' first Saturday home game of each month. The RoughRiders' first food drive night of the season is the team's season opener on Saturday, October 7 when the RoughRiders meet the Green Bay Gamblers at 7:05PM at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

"We are very happy and grateful to have the opportunity to work together with the Jaycees and the HACAP Food Reservoir again this season," said RoughRiders Vice President Jim Calpin. "Our fans have shown great generosity in donating to the food drive the last two years and we are confident that will continue this year."

Approximately one ton of food has been donated to the HACAP Food Reservoir via RoughRiders Food Drive Nights over the last two seasons.

The Cedar Rapids chapter of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) is a community-based leadership training organization for men and women age 21-40. Through serving the Cedar Rapids area in a variety of projects and programs, young people have the opportunity to develop their leadership and business skills. The Jaycees are the organization of choice for young men and women who want the best opportunities for leadership development, volunteerism and community service.

"Our partnership with the Rough Riders is tremendous and we are excited to begin another food drive season," said Cedar Rapids Jaycees Community Development Vice President Mary Duncan. "The Jaycees are here to serve the community, and this is just one more way that we are able to reach out and touch the lives of those in need."

HACAP- Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc- has been providing services to eliminate the causes of poverty in Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties for four decades. The mission of HACAP is to promote economic and emotional strength toward a goal of self-sufficiency for disadvantaged people in our communities.

The HACAP Food Reservoir is a member of America's Second Harvest Food Bank Network. The Food Reservoir channels donated products to area soup kitchens, pantries, homeless shelters, day care centers and other nonprofit food programs that feed the needy.

The two-time defending East Division champion RoughRiders are approaching their eighth season in Cedar Rapids. 2006-07 season tickets are currently available through the RoughRiders' business office (247-0340). In addition to the same great seats for every exciting RoughRider home game, season ticket holders also receive a host of special benefits available exclusively to them. Regular season single game tickets will go on sale Monday, September 25.
