Stampede open Training Camp Tuesday

The Sioux Falls Stampede will officially kick off the start of the 2006-07 season when they open training camp tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at the Sioux Falls Ice and Rec Center. The Herd return eight players from last year's squad that captured the franchise's first ever Anderson Cup championship. The Stampede will open camp with a 25-man roster. The USHL requires all teams to trim their rosters to 23 at the end of the Buc Bowl (Sept. 28-30).

The Stampede open pre-season play Thursday, September 21st in Luverne, MN vs the Sioux City Musketeers. Game time is 7:05 PM. All proceeds from the game will benefit the Luverne Hockey Club. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children 2-under will be admitted free. To purchase tickets, contact the Luverne Chamber at 507-283-4061. All major credit cards are accepted.

ZABKOWICZ COMMITS TO ST. CLOUD STATE-

The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that defenseman Sam Zabkowicz has committed to St. Cloud State University of the 2006-07 season. The Greendale, WI native is in his first season with the Stampede. Last season, Zabkowicz split time with the Dallas Stars "AAA" Midget team and the Texarkana Bandits of the NAHL. Zabkowicz appeared in 11 games with the Bandits during the regular season posting an assist and four penalty minutes. He tallied two points (1g, 1a) in six playoff games.

Prior to playing in Texarkana and Dallas, Zabkowicz played for the Culver Military Academy in Indiana where he graduated in 2005. As a senior, he tallied 33 points (5g, 28a) in 44 games. Zabkowicz was a sixth round draft pick of the Stampede during the 2006 USHL Entry Draft. He is currently in Sioux Falls and will join the Stampede for the opening of training camp Tuesday afternoon at the Sioux Falls Ice and Rec Center. Zabkowicz becomes the 7th player on the 06-07 roster to have already committed to a Division I college or University.

The Stampede are in search of energetic, hard working people to join their staff on game-nights. The Herd are looking for individuals to help sell merchandise and game night programs at Stampede home games during the 2006-07 season.

Are you a student looking to earn credits for class? The Stampede are looking for game night interns to help assist the administrative staff during game nights at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Are you a talented trumpet player, but sent to the garage by your spouse every time you play? The Stampede would like to give you the opportunity to play away at home games! The Herd are in search of an all-star trumpet player to play during Stampede games at the Sioux Falls Arena throughout the 2006-07 season.

STOMP TRYOUTS-

A reminder to fans that the Stampede will be holding open tryouts to play the team mascot "Stomp" during the 2006-07 season at the Herd's first pre-season game in Luverne, MN on September 21st.

This position is open to any male or female 18 and older. Participants must have a valid drivers license and transportation to and from events. Due to the size of the costume, applicants must be 5'7" to 5'11" tall to qualify. The ability to skate is not a necessity, but considered an asset to the club.

Participants will be given the opportunity to perform in front of a live crowd during the Stampede-Musketeers pre-season game on September 21st. The length of time will be based on the number of participants responding. This is a PAID position
