Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Oakville, ON - The Calgary Roughnecks Lacrosse Club selected eight players, including four local products, in the 2016 NLL Draft held Monday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario.
"We are very pleased with this year's draft selections," said general manager Mike Board. "We were able to add a variety of players who bring a combination of skill, size and compete to the lineup. We are looking forward to a very competitive camp and are excited to see what our new, young prospects will bring to the floor."
The Roughnecks selected 22-year-old Holden Cattoni in the first round, fifth overall. Cattoni spent his collegiate career with Johns Hopkins University where he recorded 78 goals and 18 assists for 96 points in 59 games. This summer the DeWinton, Alberta, product suited up for his first season with the Peterborough Lakers, registering 16 goals and 31 points in his Major Series Lacrosse debut. A graduate of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League, Cattoni finished in the top three in league scoring from 2011-13 with a combined 220 points (116 goals, 104 assists) in 47 games with the Okotoks Raiders.
"It's an incredible feeling being drafted by my hometown team," said Cattoni. "I have looked up to this team since they first came to Calgary and it has always been a dream of mine to wear a Roughnecks jersey. It is surreal."
"Holden is built for the NLL with his size, athleticism and ability to shoot the ball accurately while on the run," said head coach and assistant general manager Curt Malawsky. "The fact that he played in Peterborough under former Roughnecks captain Tracey Kelusky makes him even more NLL ready."
