
Bandits Select Six Players at 2016 NLL Draft, Acquire Brad Self

TORONTO --- The Buffalo Bandits today selected six players at the 2016 NLL Draft in Toronto, including three in the second round. The team also acquired transition player Brad Self from the Rochester Knighthawks in exchange for a second-round pick (16th overall) in the draft.
Self (5'11", 187 lbs.) spent the last five seasons with the Knighthawks, tallying at least 20 points in each season in Rochester. The Peterborough, Ontario native recorded 21 points (8+13) in the 2016 season and has totaled 212 points (75+137) during his 11-year career.
With their first selection of the night, the Bandits used their first of two second-round picks to select Justin Martin (5'11", 185 lbs.) from the University of Guelph. Martin appeared in 12 games with the Gryphons during the 2015 season and was named to the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association All-Canadian team.
The Bandits selected one of Martin's University of Guelph teammates, Kevin Orleman, with the 18th overall pick. Orleman was the first goaltender selected in the draft and marked the first time the Bandits have taken a goaltender since 2013. In three games for the Delta Islanders of the BC Junior Lacrosse League this season, Orleman has won two, posting an 8.17 goals-against average and a .774 save percentage.
With the 31st pick, the Bandits selected TJ Sanders (6'0" 179 lbs.). Sanders was a 2015 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and finished his senior season at Penn State with 49 points (28+15), ranking third among all Penn State players.
The team used its fourth-round pick (39th overall) to take Bryce Brochu of Wheeling Jesuit University. Brochu (6'2", 175 lbs.) led the Cardinals during the 2016 season with 58 points (28+30) and was named to the 2016 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Nike Division II All-American team.
Buffalo selected Drake Smith (6'1", 198 lbs.) in the fifth round with the 47th selection. The younger brother of current Bandit Dhane Smith, Drake Smith posted a team-high 59 points (20+39) for the Kitchner-Waterloo Braves of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League in 2016.
In the sixth round, the Bandits wrapped up their draft by selecting Logan Holmes (52nd overall) from the Windsor Clippers of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League. Holmes (6'0", 190 lbs.) led the league in points, tallying 145 (38+107) in 2016.
