Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - In losing 8-11 to the Colorado Mammoth in Denver Friday, the Calgary Roughnecks now have no option but to beat the same opponent in the friendly confines of the Saddledome Saturday night if they are to secure a home berth in the National Lacrosse League playoffs.
Both teams have 9-6 records heading into the final game of the regular season and the victor of Saturday's game will get home turf advantage by virtue of winning their head-to-head series 2-1 (Calgary won an earlier game 15-14 in overtime).
An anaemic power play again cost the Riggers dearly.
They were able to convert only one of nine power plays while the Mammoth scored four out of eight times when they had the extra man.
Both goalies - Curtis Palidwor for Calgary and Gee Nash for Colorado - put on clinics for a packed Pepsi Center.
Palidwor saved 51 of 62 shots on goal, while his counterpart kept out all but eight of 53 shots.
Riggers' skipper Tracey Kelusky led the way for his team with 2 goals and three assists. Other markers came from Kyle Goundrey (2), Kevin Dostie (2), Lewis Ratcliff and rookie Callum Crawford.
The Colorado goals were notched by Brian Langtry (3), Josh Sims (2), ex-Roughneck Chris Gill (2), Andrew Burkholder, Nick Carlson, Gavin Prout and Dan Stroup.
The teams were tied 3-3 after one quarter; Colorado led 7-4 at the half, and the home team went into the final stanza with an 8-5 edge.
Saturday's game at the Saddledome (April 15) starts at 7.30 p.m.
