Calgary Roughnecks News Release

The Calgary Roughnecks will start the 2006 NLL playoffs on the road after falling 17-7 to the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday night.

The crowd of 11,884 saw their heroes fall behind just 30 seconds in when Colorado's, Nick Carlson put home the game's first goal.

Local product, Jeremy Cheyne, playing his first ever game in a Roughnecks uniform tied the match two minutes later and Kaleb Toth potted one two minutes after that to give the home side a 2-1 lead going into the second frame.

The Mammoth took control in the second stanza, finishing the quarter on a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead into the halftime break.

Colorado broke open the game in the third, out scoring the ‘necks 7-2 in that quarter alone to lead 12-6 after 45 minutes of lacrosse had been played.

Calgary' s goalies split time on Saturday night with Curtis Palidwor getting the start and Andrew Leyshon entering the game after Colorado had put in their eighth goal of the night. Combined the ‘necks tenders stopped 42 of the 59 shots they faced.

Special teams did their part as the power play unit scored on one of three chances and the short man stopped Colorado on three of their seven opportunities.

Cheyne put in his second of the game 2:55 into the final 15 minutes of play, but from then it was all Colorado as they snuck five more goals past Calgary's goalies to clinch a home playoff game next weekend.

Scoring for the home side on Saturday were Lewis Ratcliff (1G, 3A), Toth (2G, 1A), Cheyne (2G), Jason Wulder (1G, 1A), Tracey Kelusky (2A), Kyle Goundrey (2A), Kevin Dostie (1G), Taylor Wray (1A) and Palidwor (1A).

With the loss the Roughnecks finish the season in third place in the Western Conference with a 9-7 record. Next weekend they will travel to Colorado to take on the Mammoth in the first round of the 2006 NLL playoffs.
