Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - Rob Kirkby, a mainstay of the Calgary Roughnecks team that won the National Lacrosse League championship in 2004, will not be returning to the club this coming campaign.
"We've just learned that Rob has got a great job in Vancouver that will not allow him to travel on weekends," Riggers' Vice-President and General Manager Kurt Silcott said today.
"While we are disappointed that Rob will not be playing for us, we wish him nothing but the best. He was a fine servant of this club and hopefully somewhere down the road, circumstances will allow him to rejoin us."
To accommodate that possibility, Kirkby has been placed on the hold-out list rather than being released outright.
Kirkby broke into the NLL in 2001 with the Buffalo Bandits. He later moved to New York and then onto Calgary in 2003.
He was traded to Arizona in the summer of 2005, but never dressed for the Sting and was re-acquired by the Roughnecks in time for the 2006 season.
In 77 games, regular season and playoffs, Kirkby collected 14 goals, 52 assists, 395 loose balls and 166 penalty minutes.
He was named to the NLL's All-Star game in 2004.
