Roughnecks Host Sounders 2 Thursday

Tulsa Roughnecks FC will be back in action on Thursday, April 16 when it hosts Seattle Sounders 2 at ONEOK Field. It will be the first USL regular season action for the Roughnecks in 11 days. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7:00PM.

Match activities in downtown Tulsa will get underway at 5:00PM with the Roughnecks Rally at the Guthrie Green. The Roustabouts will lead the March to the Match at approximately 6:00PM.

Sounders 2 will represent a tough challenge for the Roughnecks. Seattle has been one of the top teams in the early part of the USL season, winning each of its first three games and outscoring its opponents by 10-3 margin. The 10 goals scored are the most in USL.

For the Roughnecks, they will be looking for their first win of the season. Tulsa drew its first-ever game with Oklahoma City before being blanked by identical 2-0 scores by Saint Louis FC and the Austin Aztex. The match will represent the Roughnecks fourth straight home game to open the season.

Prior to the match, fans will have the opportunity to meet original Roughnecks legend Charlie Mitchell. Mitchell will be on the stadium concourse from 6:00-6:45PM to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Mitchell was a player on the Roughnecks initial squad in 1978 before becoming the club's head coach. Prior to coming to Tulsa, Mitchell played for three other NASL clubs and was a teammate of Pele with the New York Cosmos 1976.

It will also be another Thirsty Thursday at ONEOK Field with soft drinks and Bud and Bud Light on sale for only $2 per 16-ounce serving. In addition, it will be a Modelo Happy Hour from 6:00-7:00PM with Modelo Especial on sale, 2 for $5.

Lastly, the first 1,000 fans to enter the stadium through the Arvest or Oil Derrick Entrances will receive a special, reusable cup that commemorates the Roughnecks first-ever match with Sounders 2 compliments of Eskimo Joe's, FOX23 and 106.9 K-Hits.

Tickets for the match, and all other matches this season, are available online at TulsaRoughnecksFC.com, over the telephone at (918)744-5901 or in person at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office. A number of season ticket packages are also still available.

This game will represent the last home match for the Roughnecks for over one month. Tulsa will go on the road for its next five matches, before returning home to host Portland Timbers 2 at ONEOK Field on Saturday, May 30.

NOTES: The Roughnecks will have two new faces on their squad. Defender Iarfhlaith Daveron and midfielder Chad Bond have received clearance from FIFA and have joined the team from their European clubs. Bond, a native of Wales, has been playing for Port Talbot Town in the Welsh Premier League. Davoren is from Ireland and has been playing for Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland. . . .Several players on the Roughnecks have ties to the Sounders and the Pacific Northwest. Midfielder Oscar Jimenez and goalkeeper Zac Lubin have spent time with the Sounders-U-23 squad, while defender Brady Ballew and goalkeeper Jake Feener played collegiately at Seattle University. Jimenez and attacker Gibson Bardsley played collegiately at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Lastly, forward Sammy Ochoa spent three seasons in Seattle with the Sounders MLS squad. . . .Three different players have scored two or more goals for the Sounders 2 this season. Darwin Jones is tied for the USL lead with 3 goals, while Andy Craven and Pablo Rossi have netted two each.

Finally, original Roughnecks player and coach Charlie Mitchell will be on the concourse from 6:00-6:45PM to visit with fans, sign autographs and pose for photos.
