Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2

Sacramento Republic FC (2-2-0, 6 pts) host Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (1-2-0, 3 pts) on Wednesday, April 15 at Bonney Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.

The match will be the first-ever match between Republic FC and USL expansion side, Whitecaps FC 2. This is the second of four straight home matches for Republic FC, who started the season with three road matches. The match is the fourth straight road match for WFC2 who have not had a home match this season.

Republic FC enters the match after defeating LA Galaxy II 3-1 in their Bonney Field Opening Night on Saturday, April 11. David Estrada, Rodrigo Lopez and Emrah Klimenta each scored and assisted a goal in the second straight regular season victory for Republic FC over Los Dos.

Lopez scored his second goal of the season on Saturday when he beat Clement Diop in the 22nd minute. Lopez has dominated Galaxy II of late, scoring his last five goals against Los Dos, including both of his goals this season.

With a goal and an assist against Galaxy II, Estrada now leads Republic FC in assists with two on the season. He is also third in overall points behind Lopez and midfielder Octavio Guzman.

Klimenta, who scored his first goal of the 2015 season against Galaxy II, now has half of his total goals from a year ago. Klimenta also recorded his first assist with Republic FC when he assisted Lopez's first half goal versus Los Dos.

Whitecaps FC 2 enter the match after falling to 2-0 to Orange County Blues FC on Saturday, April 11. WFC2 played the final 56 minutes of the match with 10 men when defender Ethen Sampson received his second yellow card in the 34th minute. Sampson will be suspended for Wednesday's match.

USL veteran Tyler Roselund has been an early leader for WFC2. Roselund has an assist in 254 minutes, second most for WFC2. Last season, Roselund appeared in 22 matches for the Rochester Rhinos in 2014, scoring two goals and recording two assists.

Former San Jose Earthquakes forward Billy Schuler has also scored a goal in just 40 minutes of playing time this season for Whitecaps FC 2. Schuler appeared in six matches for the Earthquakes in 2014.

The match will be the second match at Bonney Field this season for Republic FC, who now holds an 9-1-1 record in USL regular season matches at Bonney Field. Republic FC has outscored USL opponents 24-9 in regular season matches at Bonney Field since it opened on June 20, 2014.
