Roughnecks fall to Mammoth

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks were defeated by the Colorado Mammoth 8-9 Saturday night at Ball Arena in Denver.

Roughnecks captain Jesse King opened the scoring early at just 31 seconds into the game, with Tyler Pace making it a two goal lead minutes later. Colorado had the game tied at 2-2 minutes into the second quarter, before Eli Salama scored his first of the season on a short-handed transition play. Calgary's first powerplay of the night saw Tanner Cook net a behind-the-back goal, with King adding his second of the night to give the Roughnecks a three-goal lead heading into the halftime break.

In the third, Cook found the back of the net for his second of the night and 2022 first round draft pick Seth Van Schepen netted the first of his career, however the Mammoth added five goals to their tally to leave the score at 7-7 going into the final frame. Colorado scored early before Tyler Pace evened things up again at 8-8, however the Roughnecks were unable to match a final goal from the home side.

Jesse King was the top performer for Calgary tonight, with five points (2g, 3a). Tanner Cook and Tyler Pace had two goals each, and Eli Salama and Seth Van Schepen both scored their first goals of the season.

Calgary outshot Colorado 57-46, with Christian Del Bianco making 37 saves for the Roughnecks.

The Roughnecks return home to WestJet Field on Saturday January 14th to host the San Diego Seals for the final time this season.
