San Diego Seals News Release
The San Diego Seals lead the West Division and remain undefeated after taking down the Vancouver Warriors on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena by a final score of 16-11.
"I think this was our best overall effort of the season so far," said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. "The offense was buzzing, the defense was tough and physical, Chris [Origlieri] made some big saves. It was a team effort from start to finish and I'm proud of this team tonight."
A steady first half, San Diego took a 6-4 lead into the locker room after the first 30 minutes of play. The Seals offense came to life after the intermission, scoring six goals in the third quarter. The team's physical style of play throughout the entire game led to a dominating finish in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
"It's nice to play well at home in front of our home fans," continued Merrill. "We really feed off their energy and even though this game wasn't quite as exciting as the home opener, we were able to give them a fun win at home."
Lefties Dane Dobbie and Austin Staats lead the Seals offense with four goals apiece. Forward Curtis Dickson notched a hat trick, while Wesley Berg finished the game with a team-high eight points. Rookie Mike McCannell scored his first career goal in transition, short-handed. 20-year-old goaltender Chris Origlieri earned a win in his first start of the season stopping 37 shots on the night.
San Diego will head to Calgary to face the Roughnecks on Saturday, January 14 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Seals return home on February 4 when the Panther City Lacrosse Club comes to town. Reserve your seats today at SealsLax.com.
