Roughnecks Curtis Dickson Wins Rookie of the Year Award

The National Lacrosse League announced today that Calgary Roughnecks forward Curtis Dickson has won the Rookie of the Year Award for the 2011 season. The league also announced the All-Rookie Team for the 2011 season. The team consists of Dickson, Rochester Knighthawks forward Cody Jamieson, Boston Blazers defenseman Kyle Rubisch, Toronto Rock forward Aaron Pascas, and a pair of Minnesota Swarm transition players in Andrew Suitor and Tyler Hass.

Dickson led all of the league's rookies in goals scored (33). He also finished second among rookies in points (51). Dickson was a key member of a Roughnecks team that finished the regular with a league-best 11-5 record. He was named the National Lacrosse League's Rookie of the Year.

After being selected with the first overall pick of the 2010 Entry Draft, Cody Jamieson came into the league with huge expectations. He not only met those expectations, but quickly turned into one of the league's premier players in his first season. He led all rookies in points (52) and was second in goals (28). Jamieson was also selected to represent the Eastern Division in the 2011 All Star Game.

Defenseman Kyle Rubisch made an immediate impact on the Blazers' defense. He led all rookies in loose balls (143) and forced turnovers (20). Rubisch also contributed a goal and three assists to the team. He was also an All-Star selection.

Aaron Pascas was a key contributor on the Eastern Division Champion Toronto Rock. Pascas was third amongst all rookies in goals (15) and fourth in points (23). He also added 46 loose balls and forced 16 turnovers.

Minnesota Swarm transition player Andrew Suitor did a little bit of everything in his rookie season. Suitor collected 108 loose balls, forced 11 turnovers, and won 74 faceoffs in 13 regular season games. He also added five goals and five assists. Another Swarm transition player, Tyler Hass, was very productive in his first season in the NLL. Hass played in 14 regular season games and collected 44 loose balls. He added 10 points, with 8 of them being goals.

The awards are voted on by team executives, general managers and head coaches of the league's ten member clubs. The announcements continue tomorrow with the 2011 All-Pro teams. The 2011 Season Most Valuable Player Award, presented by Reebok will be announced on Thursday.
