Mammoth Defenseman Davies Nominated for NLL Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team

DENVER - Colorado Mammoth defenseman Ben Davies has been nominated for the 2011 NLL Rookie of the Year Award and the All-Rookie Team, according to the organization. The 22-year-old, who played collegiately at Simon Fraser University in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Mammoth in 2009. Davies did not play for Colorado in 2010 due to injury.

"Ben was steady and solid all year for us," said Mammoth President and General Manager Steve Govett. "He had a good rookie campaign and we look forward to his continued growth as a player."

Davies began his college career at the University of Calgary and played football for the Dinos as a freshman. After just one season, the British Columbia native left Calgary and the gridiron in favor of Burnaby (a Vancouver suburb) and the lacrosse field. The move paid off, as Davies ultimately became a professional lacrosse player and shined in his first year in the league.

"I'm honored to have been nominated for a spot on the All-Rookie Team and for the 2011 NLL Rookie of the Year [Award]," said Davies. "My teammates and coaching staff have been instrumental in my development this season and I couldn't have done it without them."

The NLL Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team will be announced later today.
