Ross Belts a Home Run, Rox Fall to Huskies
July 4, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
Duluth, MN - Sean Ross (San Diego State) hit his first career home run with the Rox, but St. Cloud (16-21) dropped a 2-1 game to the Duluth Huskies (25-12). Evan Johnson (Creighton) struck out six batters and allowed just three hits in five innings pitched. Connor Aube (UT-Arlington) registered a multi-hit game.
The scoring began in the top of the third inning, when Ross hit a home run to left field and put St. Cloud up 1-0. He currently holds a .404 batting average in his first season in the Northwoods League.
Duluth tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a base hit up the middle that scored a runner from second base. They then claimed their first lead of the game in the sixth inning, when a single brought home a run from third base. The Huskies proceeded to load the bases, but Jake Suddreth (BYU) and the defense claimed back-to-back outs to put away the scoring threat for Duluth.
The Rox had runners on the corners with only one out in the eighth inning but grounded into a six-four-three double play to end the scoring opportunity.
St. Cloud will finish the two game series with Duluth on Thursday evening at the Rock Pile. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and there will be postgame fireworks. The team will also wear their military appreciation jerseys one final time.
The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now. For more information on purchasing tickets, visit the Rox Ticket Office on the west end of the Municipal Athletic Complex, call 320-240-9798 or visit www.stcloudrox.com.
