Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Jose Rosario tossed six innings of two-hit shutout ball, helping the Boise Hawks to a 6-1 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils at Memorial Stadium.
The right-hander won his second-straight start, retiring 14-of-15 batters at one stretch, walking two and fanning four in his longest outing of the year. Joe Zeller got the final nine outs, striking out three, for his second save.
Boise broke a scoreless tie in the fourth, as Ryan Cuneo lined a solo homer over the right field wall leading off the frame to make it 1-0. The Hawks would catch a break with one out, Willson Contreras would strikeout, but reach on a passed ball. With two out and two on, Yaniel Cabezas ended an 0-for-26 slump vs. Tri-City with a two-run single, followed by an RBI Zeke DeVoss double and a Pin-Chieh Chen RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Tri-City broke up the shutout bid in the eighth inning on a bloop single by Brian Humphries, as Boise remains the lone team in the Northwest League without a shutout this season.
Cuneo went 2-for-3 and Cabezas went 2-for-4 in the win for Boise, who pulled within two games of the Dust Devils in the East Division standings. Four different Tri-City players had hits in the loss.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Austin Reed meeting Tyler Gagnon at 7:15 p.m.
