Seattle Sounders FC News Release
RENTON, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC has traded midfielder Mauro Rosales to Chivas USA in exchange for the rights to forward Tristan Bowen and Chivas' No. 2 allocation ranking, the club announced today. Chivas USA will receive Seattle's No. 13 allocation ranking.
Rosales, 32, co-leads Sounders FC with 34 career MLS assists and holds the club record with 17 game-winning assists across all competitions. Rosales ranks second in MLS with 34 assists since 2011, and ranks fifth in league history with an average of 0.50 assists per 90 minutes (minimum of 20 assists).
"Mauro has been an important part of our organization, both on and off the field, for the past three years," said Owner and General Manager Adrian Hanauer. "It will be difficult to see him leave, but our salary cap situation made this decision necessary. We wish Mauro the very best at Chivas."
Rosales led Sounders FC with eight assists and 33 appearances in 2013, adding four goals. He finished the season tied-first in MLS with five game-winning assists, matching his club record from 2011 and 2012. Sounders FC posted a 24-2-8 all-time record in MLS when Rosales registered a goal (12) or assist (34).
Sounders FC originally signed Rosales on March 18, 2011, and re-signed him as a Designated Player on December 13, 2011. In each of his first two seasons with Sounders FC, Rosales set the club record with 13 assists, scoring a career high five goals in 2011 while earning MLS Newcomer of the Year honors. He has made the seventh-most league appearances (86) in club history and, overall, he has scored 12 goals with 37 assists in 101 appearances across all competitions.
Bowen, 22, had a career high 22 appearances and 15 starts for Chivas USA in 2013, scoring two goals with two assists. Bowen made eight appearances in his first two seasons with Chivas USA, recording two assists. He spent his first two professional seasons with the LA Galaxy where he made 18 appearances and 10 starts, including two goals and two assists in 2010.
A native of Los Angeles, Bowen was the first player to come out of the LA Galaxy youth academy system to sign with the first team on November 12, 2008. Bowen also played for the U.S. Under-18 and Under-20 National Teams.
