Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has acquired a conditional pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft from Eastern Conference side New England Revolution in exchange for goalkeeper Brad Knighton.
"This is a great opportunity for Brad to go back to New England, where he has played before and has a chance to be a starting goalkeeper in this league," said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. "We would like to thank Brad for all of his contributions to the club over the past two seasons and wish him the best of luck."
Knighton, 28, joined Whitecaps FC in January 2012 following a season with North American Soccer League side Carolina RailHawks. In two seasons with Whitecaps FC, the Hickory, North Carolina native posted a record of 13W-7L-7D and eight clean sheets in all competitions. Knighton began his professional career with the Revolution in 2007.
It was announced on November 28 that Whitecaps FC had declined Knighton's 2014 contract option, which would have made him eligible for Thursday's MLS Re-Entry Draft.
Whitecaps FC also announced today that striker Tommy Heinemann has opted out of the MLS Re-Entry process. As a result, Heinemann's rights will remain with Whitecaps FC, which allows an opportunity for him to re-sign with the club.
Whitecaps FC 2014 season tickets start at just $349, subject to applicable fees. The 'Caps are also offering a flexible range of ticket products, including half-season tickets ($244), 5-packs ($149), student season tickets ($199), and a youth soccer half-season ticket ($100).
