Richmond Roosters News Release

RICHMOND, INDIANA – The Richmond Roosters lost two out of three games to the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field to begin their season long nine-game road trip. The Otters are arguabley the Frontier League's hottest team as they have won five of their last six games and taken over first place in the Eastern Division.

The Roosters lost the first game of the series 4-3. Blake Leverett led the Roosters with two-RBI, but the team was only able to score in the second inning as they were shut out the rest of the way by strong Evansville pitching.

Richmond came back to win on Tuesday night behind Aaron Phillips' best outing as a Rooster. Williams pitched seven innings while only giving up one run to earn his first victory. Vince Vazquez picked up his fourth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth. Kris Zacuto led the Roosters' offense by belting his second home run in three games.

Evansville was able to win the rubber match of the series despite an outstanding performance by Richmond starter Chris Spigner. Spigner pitched his second complete game of the season while limiting the Otters to two runs on just four hits. He struck out eight on the evening to bring his team leading total to fifty on the season. Unfortunately, the Roosters were not able to take advantage of Spigner's performance, as they were only able to push one run across the plate despite gathering eleven hits in the game.

The Roosters hope to get back on track as they make a stop in Kalamazoo for a three game series with the Kings. The Roosters will then finish the road trip in Chillicothe before returning home on July 9, for a rematch with Evansville.
