Washington Wild Things News Release
The Richmond Roosters avoided the sweep, hitting six home runs to defeat the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, 12-3.
Josh Hollingsworth, Trevor Hall, and Kevin Brown each jacked two home runs off Washington starter Eric Holt. Holt (3-1) gave up 12 runs and 14 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Roosters' starting pitcher Tyler Mott (1-0) was literally knocked out of the game in the sixth when he took an L.J. Biernbaum line-drive off his face. Mott, in obvious pain, eventually walked off under his own power. Mott went 5+ innings and gave up one run and five hits.
The Wild Things finally got a run on the board in the sixth and added two more in the ninth, including a solo home run by pinch hitter, Matt McDonnell.
Even with the loss, the Washington received word that four players were selected to be all-stars. Brian Stoecklein, Jon Cahill, Jack Headley, and B.J. Borsa will represent the Wild Things in the 2004 Frontier League All-Star game in O'Fallon, Mo., on July 14. John Massarelli will manage the East Division and will bring along pitching coach Mark Mason and hitting coach Ryan Ellis.
The Wild Things return home Wednesday to begin an important series against the Evansville Otters at 7:05 p.m. Washington will send Doug Lantz (1-0, 8.25 ERA) to the hill. Tickets are still available and can be ordered at Falconi Field or online at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
