DES MOINES, IA - From the sidelines or on the turf, rookie quarterback Kyle King looks to take on any role that is asked of him as he begins his professional football journey with the Iowa Barnstormers.

Growing up with two coaching parents, King was exposed to football very early on in his life, becoming a ball boy for his father's football team from kindergarten to fifth grade. When he finally got the opportunity to play he realized his talent for throwing the football.

"I started playing flag football in first grade," King said. "I had always been pretty naturally talented at throwing the ball; it was just something I was born with."

King was a four-sport athlete in high school and earned all-state, all-region and all-district honors in football, basketball and baseball and track and field. With football being his best and favorite sport, he went on to play division three college football less than an hour away from his hometown of Milano, TX at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

He would become one of the most decorated quarterbacks to put on a Crusaders uniform, leading the team to a 2021 National Championship title. In his two full seasons as a starter, King left as an All-American and still holds program records for passing yards and passing touchdowns.

"We played at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, which was super cool," King said. "I threw for 436 yards and just put up 57 points in the national championship, it was super cool."

King signed with the Barnstormers in November and built a strong early relationship with veteran linebacker Ian McBorrough. Despite being on different sides of the ball, he admired McBorrough's professionalism and work ethic, explaining that those qualities are what he wants to emulate as he transitions into the Indoor Football League.

"He really is a professional and the way he carries himself and does the work he's supposed to be, it's really cool watching him do his thing for sure," King said. "Just how he carries himself he's a good guy to look up to."

While King didn't see any action in Iowa's first game of the season, he is happy and grateful to be a part of the organization in any capacity whether it be playing or supporting the team from the sidelines.

"Being part of an organization again, like a family, that's what I miss the most about college football," King said. "We did a lot of good things, but the time I missed is like 6am weight room sessions, hanging out in a locker room before we leave on the bus to go somewhere."

Q: How would you describe your personality in one word?

A: "Unpredictable. You never know what's gonna come out of my mouth. I'm not saying I have mood swings like I don't get angry or mad but I will say what pops into my head without a filter."

Q: What position would you play on the other side of the ball and why?

A: "I would say defensive end because I played defense in peewee football, which was when I was little and I loved it so much. I loved it so much, but I just stopped growing at that rate and never quite got big enough to do it competitively."

Q: Do you have any hidden talents?

A: "I like to sing it. I don't like to say I'm good or bad. I just enjoy it."

Q: What is your most used emoji?

A: "Just a simple laughing face I overuse that emoji."

Q: What do you want Barnstormers fans to know about you?

A: "I am a pretty easy going guy and I love to have fun. Don't be scared to talk to me if you see me. Just know I'm here for the right reasons and really love football."
