Greenville Drive News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Rome Braves used six runs in the top of the seventh to down the Greenville Drive, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field.

Greenville got on the board first in the bottom of the second. After Devlin Granberg was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, Alan Marrero followed with a single up the middle and the runners were advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Dearden. Granberg scored on an Everlouis Lozada groundout, then Marrero came in to score on a two-out wild pitch to give the Drive the 2-0 lead after two.

Drive starter Chase Shugart worked around some trouble in the third and fourth, getting a fly out to leave the bases loaded in the third and a ground out to strand two Braves in the fourth and keep the shutout intact.

Rome ended Greenville's shutout chances in the top of the seventh and rallied to plate six runs and take their first lead of the day. Four-straight hits, including a double by Shea Langeliers, plated three runs before Rome recorded an out. Henry Quintero was thrown out at third for the second out of the inning, as he tried to stretch an RBI double into a triple and pushed across Rome's fourth run of the inning. Darling Florentino added to the Braves' big inning, sending a two-run shot over the Green Monster, before Cole Brannen ended the inning with a diving catch in centerfield.

Greenville cut into the lead with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, as Granberg put his sixth homer of the season on top of the Green Monster to cut the lead in half at 6-3, but the Drive couldn't push another run across in the final four outs, falling to the Braves, 6-3.

Rome starter Jose Olague (6-6) earned the win for the Braves, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five without giving up a walk. Victor Cavalieri picked up his first save of the season, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing just one run on one hit with four strikeouts and no walks.

Despite throwing just 4.2 innings, Shugart turned in his third-straight strong outing, giving up four hits and striking out four without allowing a run. Alex Demchak (1-1) was tagged with the loss, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing four runs on five hits.

Right fielder Tyler Esplin went 2-for-4 on Sunday in his first game back from the IL. Granberg scored two of the Drive's three runs, while catcher Alan Marrero went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Drive head to Columbia, S.C., next for a three-game series against the Fireflies.
