SUNS SNAP SKID WITH 2-1 WIN: Hagerstown utilized an excellent pitching performance from Reid Schaller and Ryan Tapani to beat Delmarva 2-1 at Municipal Stadium Saturday evening. The Suns (33-47, 3-7) won their first game at home since Kyle Marinconz's walk-off homer in game two of a doubleheader June 11. It also snaps their seven-game losing streak dating back to June 21 against the Rome Braves. Israel Pineda broke a 1-1 tie, doubling to right-center to score Cody Wilson, who had walked to lead off the sixth. Jhon Peluffo (L, 1-1) was able to strand Pineda and get out of the frame with the score still 2-1. Schaller had a strong second outing on the bump. He no-hit the Shorebirds through his first four innings on the bump prior to giving up a homer to Seamus Curran to knot the game at one. After giving up a double, he handed the ball to Ryan Tapani (W, 4-5) who spun out of trouble in the fifth before closing out the game, allowing two hits, but not giving up a run.

CLIPPING CLUFF: The Washington Nationals' sixth-round draft pick, Jackson Cluff has made an immediate impact with the Hagerstown Suns. He has played in nine of the Suns 10 games in the second half and has reached base safely in eight. The middle infielder owns a .417 on-base percentage through his first 34 plate appearances in the South Atlantic League.

SOME WILL WIN, SOME WILL LOSE, SUNS ARE SINGING BLUES: Last night the Suns snapped their longest losing streak of the season, a seven-game stretch that began June 21 against the Rome Braves. They also snapped a home losing streak that dated back to June 11.

KEEP COOL LIKE CONNELL: Justin Connell has been seeing the ball well in the second half. After his second four-hit performance of the season Friday, the outfielder went 1-for-3 as the designated hitter last night to make him 6-for-10 in this series and 18-for-42 (.429) against the Shorebirds this season.

TAP THE PEN: Ryan Tapani has bounced between starting and coming from the pen this season. The righty has now played in 16 games and started five on the bump--matching last season's total. The Creighton-product spun 4.1 innings of scoreless relief last night, setting down four via the strikeout while allowing just two hits. The 4.1 innings pitched is the longest relief outing for a Suns pitcher this season.

HOLES IN THE BATS: In the first three games of this homestand, the Suns are 17-for-93 (.183) and just 4-for-26 (.154) with runners in scoring position. To compound those troubles, the Suns have had just three extra-base hit in the last three games.

HOWELL-ING IN THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: After pitching 8.1 scoreless frames through five appearances to begin his season, Jacob Howell has now allowed at least one earned run in each of his last four games. Yesterday he gave up a season high four runs across just one inning while giving up five hits. His ERA now sits at 5.02.

Governor's Cup: The Suns are 5-9 against Delmarva this season with eight games remaining this season.
