SAN JOSE, Calif. (Mar. 30, 2004) – San Jose receiver/linebacker James Roe was today named the Arena Football League's U.S. Army Ironman of the Week after his performance in the SaberCats' win over Los Angeles on Mar. 26.

In a true ironman performance, Roe (6-1, 198, Norfolk State) helped lead San Jose to a 55-52 victory over the Avengers by catching a game-high 10 passes for 100 yards and a pair of scores, rushing for 2 yards on his only attempt, returning an interception 7-yards for a score and posting 1.5 tackles.

Roe's first touchdown reception early in the second quarter was QB Mark Grieb's 300th career scoring pass and his interception early in the third quarter gave San Jose its first lead of the game and broke Avengers' QB Tony Graziani's streak of 210 attempts without a pick.

The fifth-year AFL veteran has returned four of his six career interceptions for scores, tying him with Clevan Thomas for the SaberCats all-time lead.

This marks the second time that the former Spartan has earned an AFL weekly honor. Roe was also tabbed Ironman of the Week during the 2001 season.

Other weekly award winners include Detroit Fury receiver/linebacker Thabiti Davis, who was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player, and Colorado Crush defensive specialist Rashad Floyd, who earned ADT Defensive Player.

The SaberCats return to action Sunday, April 4, when they travel to Tampa for a game between the past two ArenaBowl champions. The game will be regionally televised on NBC at 9:00 a.m. (PT). San Jose plays its next home game on Friday, April 16, when it hosts the Chicago Rush. Tickets for that and all remaining SaberCats' home games can be purchased at all Northern California TicketMaster outlets, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, or in person at the HP Pavilion box office.
