Destroyers add veteran defensive specialist

COLUMBUS, OH – The Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers have signed defensive specialist Del Lee to their active roster, the team announced today. In addition, the Destroyers have waived quarterback John Rayborn.

Lee (5-11, 190, McNeese State) joins the Destroyers after beginning the 2004 season as a member of the Tampa Bay Storm. In seven games with the Storm this season, Lee recorded seven tackles, three pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Lee appeared in 12 games with the Indiana Firebirds in 2003, leading the ‘Birds with four interceptions, 13 pass deflections and two fumble recoveries. He also finished second on the squad with 66 total tackles. He began his AFL career with the Toronto Phantoms in 2001, registering 59.5 tackles, eight pass deflections and one interception in 11 games played as a rookie. In two seasons with the Phantoms (2001-02), Lee totaled 96.5 tackles and four interceptions. Prior to entering the AFL, Lee spent the majority of the 1999 season on the practice squad of the NFL's New York Jets before being activated for the final four games of the season.

Rayborn, who originally signed with the team on October 28, 2003, appeared in four games and started two for the Destroyers this season, completing 50-of-85 pass attempts for 553 yards and nine touchdowns with six interceptions. Rayborn entered this year's training camp as the team's projected starting quarterback, however lost the job to rookie Ryan Vena at the conclusion of main camp.

The Destroyers return to the field Sunday afternoon as they host the Orlando Predators at Nationwide Arena. Kickoff is set for noon.
